Doritos, Penguins, Antarctica, and Joel

Well, they did squish the video a little bit, but I am pretty happy with how it came out. This is also the first time I get to show family and friends any pictures of me in Antarctica with the penguins, so here is my entry for the Doritos Super Bowl contest – Coach of the Penguins.

I know they say that you aren’t supposed to work with animals, but penguins are pretty sweet to work with because they basically do a lot of standing around, and the occasional pooping. These specific penguins are King Penguins, and all of this was shot on location in Fortuna Bay, by my buddy Nadeev.

At the moment, there’s no voting or anything required – it’s just for watching. Then the judges are going to pick the top five they think would make a great Superbowl ad, and the public decides which one gets aired.

You may remember that Jay Leno used to be a Doritos guy (during the “crunch all you want, we’ll make more” years) so when I was on his couch, I asked if he wanted to be in my video. He said no, but in the nicest way possible. Steve Carrell was also a no-go, which is good, because I could afford the penguins (thanks to Nature Valley sending me there for free) but I probably cannot afford Steve Carrell.

I’ve got an animal theory, too – each year in the superbowl, they introduce a new big animal. (careerbuilder monkeys, budweiser frogs, budweiser dogs, etc.) So this year, I think it’s time we give the penguin his football due.
