The Video Contest That Wasn’t, But Then Maybe Was?

The GPS company Tom Tom is running an amazing contest, giving families the chance to go to some exotic locations and drive a special car around to help them “Map Paradise.” Fiji, St. Lucia, Mauritius, etc. I heard about the contest on onlinevideocontests.com, got very excited and instantly started putting together this video for my entry. (To the tune of the melody Tom Tom uses on their site! Clever, right?!?!!)

I’m really happy with how it came out! And ever since we listened to the song 100 times that day, Morty now can be prompted to grab and twist his cheeks if Randi or I say “and the world’s cutest…” so that’s sweet. The only problem is, when I went to go fill in my application and submit, it turns out that this is not a video contest. It’s not even a video OPTIONAL contest. It’s just a short essay contest about why your family deserves to go (which I tried to fill out as hilariously as possible.)

But then I thought, well this thing is made, and I really want to win this contest, so maybe there’s a way to submit it anyway. And I’ve started posting it on every Tom-Tom related site I can find. (Google+, their Facebook page, youtube, etc.) in hopes that maybe they will see the extra effort the Levinson family went to and go ahead and give us a chance at one of those trips (The Fiji entry period ends tomorrow.)

If it doesn’t work, at least we still have footage of Randi jumping out behind a bush in the woods, so that’s pretty great.

The Truth

This is as close as I’m going to get to preaching a religion. This is Bow-Tie, the character and series created by friend of the Levinson Brothers, David B. Levy. And it’s an awesomely accurate portrayal of our shared humanity. If you don’t subscribe to it already, you should.

Second Time Around For Israel

This video won a contest in the very early days of my contest voting and when I saw a “Stand up for Israel” contest with only 2 other entries, I figured I might as well give it another shot. Interesting thing about this video – the fun thing about having a video about Israel on your youtube channel is that you are GUARANTEED at least 8-9 anti-Semitic comments showing up in your email box from strangers per year.

Anyway, please vote for it by clicking on these words right here.

Jug Band Teaches Lesson About Not Wasting Money On Jug

For the “Oh Chuck! I blew my cash!” contest being held by Charles Schwab we were asked to explain a purchase we made that was less than stellar. I have made many such purchases in my life (my wife would say that my back inversion table was the worst $100 I ever spent, but she never enjoyed the spine-stretching goodness like I did!!!)

But I do have a very overpriced Musical Jug sitting under my desk in my garage that I thought would be the perfect thing to pull out and record. It’s up for vote for the next couple weeks, then from the top 20 vote getters the Charles Schwab folks will choose the top five winners, so if you’ve got the time and inclination to hear a daily jug solo, head on over and vote by clicking the image below.

A Song for the Los Angeles Metro Transit Authority

Careful, folks, this blog is about to get political as f*ck. It also won’t mean anything to basically anyone outside of LA, so if you live outside of LA, trust me it’s the funniest thing of all time. If you live inside LA, don’t tell the people who live outside any different than what I just said.

It’s Mother’s Day so I created this song and video PRACTICALLY OUT OF THIN AIR to honor the Mother’s out there and hopefully guide those getting gifts for them to doing it right.

I also made it as a little Mother’s Day gift to my own mother Meredith, and to my wonderful wife and the mother of my child, Randi.

Are you dying to know who the richest man in the world is? Here is the answer, along with the 9 other guys who round out the top ten.

This is part of my quest to answer all the most asked questions on google. So if you type in anything having to do with wealthiest, richest, most powerful, Forbes, billionaires, most money or something similar, you will get this video as the answer. Bill Gates. Warren Buffett. (See? the more of these shmucks name’s I type in, the better my chances!! JUST LOOK AT HOW I TAGGED THIS 75 word blog post!

My brother and I created a new youtube station called Levinson Brothers with a different mandate than my happyjoel/contest winning youtube site. The expressed purpose of this station is to try to create videos that get youtube views and hopefully make some money that way (I think the guys on South Park called them internet dollars.)

This thought process has already led to the creation of the wildly successful video series “Kitty, Puppy, Baby” in which Kitty, Puppy and Baby make jokes that otherwise would be dying in our respective joke notebooks.

Now, based on some “how to get more views on youtube” videos I spent my saturday watching, I’ve decided to add an instructional component. I’m also attempting to “optimize” my title for google searching, hence the video title:

“How To Tie a Tie Easy Youtube Video, Learn To Tie A Tie, For Beginners, The Song.”

It actually does have some valuable tie tying information and if you follow the instructions, you will be able to tie a Prince Albert Tie Knot, a four-in-hand knot and a bow tie. It also teaches you to love again. Or at least maybe makes you laugh once or twice.

And it’s designed to be shared. If you know someone who’s heading to prom, a wedding, a funeral, a gala, a court date, a job interview, meeting the in-laws for the first time or any such thing, please show them the video so they can get it right. It’s important.

If you have other things you would like me to “how-to” with song, please leave your suggestions in the comment below.

I Put on Glasses for this Video Contest

Like Robert DeNiro gaining 50 pounds for “Raging Bull” or Christian Bale losing 30 for “The Fighter,” I made an intense physical distortion of myself for my art – namely, I put on a pair of my wife’s glasses while rapping for this video contest entry for America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses.

Joel in glasses

Look! Glasses!
